CMC Associates are a group of creative, intelligent, well-respected professionals who excel in the heritage sector.

Dr Mike Spearman is the founding director of CMC Associates. An archaeologist and curator by trade; he has vast experience in innovative uses of information technology to improve visitor experiences in the museum and heritage sector. Mike was the founding CEO of the £15m lottery project, SCRAN (Scottish Cultural Resource Access Network), and also established 'The Multimedia Team' for the National Museums Scotland.

Sharyn Emslie is the contracts director of CMC Associates. An award-winning multimedia designer and manager, she has many years' experience of working on cultural projects that depend on new technologies to improve access and understanding.

Caroline Tempest is an interpretive planning and project management specialist with an array of successful projects behind her. Previously Interpretation Manager for the National Trust for Scotland, she has vast experience of working within a diverse range of sites and subjects, from award-winning multi-million pound visitor centres to sensitive interpretive installations.

Elspeth Mackay is an educational specialist, working on interpretation and content development for projects within the museum and heritage sector. Elspeth's aim is to find new ways of inspiring audiences, and motivating people to learn.

'I love the variety of what we do – one week we could be working with islanders on a photographic archive in Canna, the next week we could be peering into a ditch at Vindolanda on Hadrian's Wall. There's always something new to learn, something fresh to get excited about.'

Robin MacTaggart is an experienced multimedia designer and AV producer, specialising in intuitive, relevant design that adds real value to a site, collection or story by engaging visitors or audiences. His production work has also included 3D VR reconstructions, animations and other innovative programs.

Alison Gilkes is a programmer, videographer and photographer with extensive experience in the multimedia industry. Her sharp programming skills and analytical abilities mean she always finds good, working solutions for CMC's IT projects.

Indira Mann is an interpretive planner and copywriter with more than 16 years' experience of planning and producing interpretation for a variety of heritage sites. She has also worked within the media and recently returned from Norway, where she was senior sub-editor for a global newspaper.

'I get a real kick from taking complex, technical or seemingly eclectic material and teasing out the stories that people can engage with, whatever their background or motivation. One of the best things about interpretation is working with specialists and staff who are enthusiastic about their resource and want to share it with others.'

Sian Lewis is a 3D animator, artist and illustrator. Her understanding of the human form and 3D spaces are key to the realism in her illustrations, and in her animations for 3D VR projects, games, and other interactives.

Dr Jim Hemsley is a highly experienced consultant, lecturer and researcher providing specialist knowledge of European culture and technology funding opportunities. In 1990 Jim founded the on-going global EVA Conferences for people interested in the application of information technology to the cultural and visual arts, and as such has helped to broaden CMC's remit across Europe.

Sandy Buchanan has over 20 years experience in the application of new technologies in the cultural sector. This has ranged from managing large-scale documentation projects to specialist photogrammetric and 3D analytical work. Sandy has undertaken a range of ‘change management’ consultancies for our heritage clients – arriving at the correct technical solutions and methodologies for their projects.

Jill Harden is an associate of the Museums Association and has worked in the cultural heritage sector for over 25 years. She is a researcher and content developer, with specialist understanding of archaeology, interpretation and cultural heritage management.
